Crawler, Wheeled or Fixed Tub Grinder: Compare Complete Cost per Accepted Ton

Compare transport, setup, ownership and accepted output before choosing a tub-grinder chassis.

Compare transport, setup, ownership and accepted output before choosing a tub-grinder chassis. Historical dollar-per-ton figures are unverified, and actual configuration must be confirmed.

Choose the chassis that fits your material flow, legal transport arrangements and approved working conditions; then compare its complete cost per accepted ton. A lower purchase price or faster movement alone cannot establish the cheapest configuration. Count time spent transporting, setting up, loading, maintaining and waiting as well as productive grinding.

Confirm the actual chassis before comparing model names

Review the WD3600C product configuration, but confirm the quoted machine’s chassis, drive and equipment on its drawings. The WD3600S product material contains conflicting semi-trailer and stationary descriptions; neither the model suffix nor this article resolves the supplied configuration. Do not assume that every 3600-series unit has the same engine, capacity, support arrangement or purchase price. Obtain the actual equipment schedule before assigning costs.

Keep historical cost figures separate from verified results

Earlier attributed model Earlier figure Evidence status
WD3600S USD 2.87 per ton Unverified historical claim; chassis classification unresolved
WD3600W USD 3.14 per ton Unverified historical claim; not a current quote
WD3600C USD 3.42 per ton Unverified historical claim; not a measured site budget

These figures are retained only to identify the corrected legacy claim, not to rank machines or promise savings. The earlier approximate 9% premium is not a verified operational comparison. Currency, accounting period, accepted product, feed condition, utilization and included costs would all need supporting records. A fixed installation still incurs maintenance; absence of tracks does not mean zero maintenance cost.

Define accepted output and a common accounting period

Divide total costs over a defined period by the tons of output actually accepted for the intended use in that same period. Do not divide by nameplate capacity or all material loaded into the tub. Record rejected contamination, oversize reprocessing, moisture basis and purchaser acceptance consistently. Compare equivalent feed streams and output requirements; otherwise a smaller nominal cost can simply reflect a different product or omitted work.

Include transport and setup rather than only grinding

A WD3600W wheeled configuration needs a transport and site plan appropriate to the actual machine. Include hauler, towing suitability, route restrictions, permits where required, loading or unloading, preparation and productive time lost during moves. The earlier one-to-three-week relocation rule is not a universal economic threshold. Compare the number and distance of real moves with the material that can be processed at each stop.

Separate in-site movement from approved working ground

Crawler movement may reduce some repositioning delays, but it does not authorize operation on steep slopes, soft ground or unsuitable support. Establish the manufacturer’s limits and assess the actual access and work area. Include track wear, maintenance and relocation logistics rather than assuming mobility eliminates transport. A permanent line may reduce repeated moves, but loader travel, material supply, foundations and integration can still dominate its costs.

Test three utilization scenarios on the same cost basis

Build low, expected and high utilization scenarios using annual ownership or rental, transport, setup, fuel or electricity, labor, wear parts, planned maintenance and the cost of expected unplanned interruptions. Avoid counting lost output twice as both reduced accepted tons and an unsupported cash expense. Check the WD3600S configuration information against a confirmed quotation, especially before using a fixed-installation assumption. A well-used mobile machine may outperform an underused permanent line, or the reverse; measured site inputs decide.

Request a comparison based on the real project

Provide representative feed, required output, accepted-ton definition, annual operating time, transport routes, relocation pattern and site layout through technical contact. Related WeiDong horizontal wood grinder information offers broader equipment context, not proof of a chassis cost ranking. Ask for a configuration-specific budget and a documented evaluation; do not buy on an unverified cost-per-ton winner or a guaranteed annual saving.
